The European Commission will file a major complaint against Apple and Meta before the end of the summer for alleged violations of the Digital Markets Act.
Apple and Meta are most likely facing a complaint from the European Commission. He believes that the two companies have ignored the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The complaint would be formulated before the summer. Reuters knows this from three anonymous sources.
At the end of March, the European Commission opened an investigation against Apple, Meta and Alphabet under the DMA legislation. Apple and Meta are now considered priority cases.
Control and payment opt-out
The committee fears that Apple is violating the rules steering does not respect. In addition, the company must ensure that its ecosystem is sufficiently open and allow developers to direct customers to solutions outside the app store via apps. Freedom of choice, for example with regard to the browser, is also criticized, although this first accusation does not yet take this into account.
Meta then tried to cleverly comply with the DMA through an “agree or pay” strategy, with an expensive subscription formula for those who do not agree to certain uses of their data. There is no opt-out without submitting the draft law. The Commission also considers this questionable.
