Huawei unveils 5.5G network

Huawei, China Mobile and other companies have introduced a new expanded version of the 5G network in China. It is called 5.5G and can provide download speeds of up to 10 Gbps. The transmission rate will reach 1 Gbps. This technology is claimed to provide a delay of 4 milliseconds. At the same time, it will be developed on the basis of existing networks, although they will have to be restructured.

The name 5.5G was proposed by Huawei last year, but the project’s roadmap was titled “White Paper on New Opportunities and Industrial Development of 5G-Advanced Network (Extended and Enhanced 5G)”, hereinafter referred to as 5G-A. It is possible that the name will change in the future.

For 5G-Advanced, such an option was proposed in April last year by the Project Coordination Group of the 3GPP consortium developing mobile features. They also confirmed that 5G-A and 5.5G are different names for the same technology.

There are currently 1.6 million 5G base stations in China. The number of users of this standard is more than 410 million people. 5G was licensed for commercial use in this country 3 years ago. The launch date of 5.5G has not been announced yet. Source
