A new leak from Weibo tipster @FixedFocus has revealed details about the upcoming HarmonyOS NEXT Developer Preview 2 (DP2), raising expectations for Huawei’s next-generation operating system.

The leak suggests that HarmonyOS NEXT offers better animation effects compared to Android. Although DP2’s official release date has not yet been confirmed, @FixedFocus shared its experiences with the new build and highlighted its capabilities.

Interestingly, the leak claims that HarmonyOS NEXT’s “Developer Options” are similar to Android’s options, but superior to them in several aspects. The guide emphasized that Huawei’s operating system is independent and is not based on Linux or the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

This isn’t the first time HarmonyOS NEXT has been praised for its smooth operation. Early reports consistently described the upcoming operating system as more fluid and seamless than its predecessors, especially on smartphones and tablets.

The leak also hints at powerful AI features in HarmonyOS NEXT. However, details are still limited and may be revealed in future releases or consumer beta.

Huawei devices are currently running on HarmonyOS 4.2 and users may be concerned about data loss during the major “NEXT” update.

To solve this problem, the expert revealed a feature called “Virtual Cloud Phone” (Cloud Phone Server) in the upcoming operating system. This feature will allow users to temporarily save their data for a month, upgrade to HarmonyOS NEXT, and then download all their data back to their phone. Although Huawei has released this feature before, potential improvements for HarmonyOS NEXT are still unclear.
