For several months now, Google’s developers have been dealing with the implementation of voice feature support in the Chrome browser for Android devices. Now the beginning of the process of introducing a function called “Listen to this page” into the Internet browser became known.
According to available data, the new feature is available on many text-heavy web pages. To use it, simply click on the three-dot button in the upper right corner of the browser and select the “Listen to this page” function from the drop-down menu. Once you enable this option, a mini player will appear at the bottom of the page with the progress bar, play/pause and mute buttons, as well as the name of the page.
The Listen to This Page tool provides users with additional options. 10-second fast forward/rewind is supported, as well as changing the playback speed from 0.5× to 4×. In the additional menu, you can activate text selection and automatic page scrolling options, as well as choose a different sound.
The new feature dashboard remains docked while the user interacts with other browser tabs. Playback will continue after the device is locked, but only if Chrome is in extended mode. It looks like it will be some time before Google makes the “Listen to this page” feature available to all Chrome users. It is distributed via server-side changes and was first noticed in Chrome 125 stable release.
