A Tehran court sentenced a Nobel Peace Prize laureate on Tuesday. Narges Mohammadi sentenced to another year in prison for “propaganda against the system”, for criticizing the introduction of the veil and calls for a boycott of parliamentary elections – the sixth sentence against the imprisoned activist since 2021.
“According to the verdict passed room 29 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, Ms. Narges Mohammadi was sentenced to one year in prison for propaganda against the system,” the activist’s lawyer, Mostafa Nili, told X.
“Among the examples and reasons for this decision are his words about Ms. Dina Qalibaf, his letter on the boycott of parliamentary elections and a letter to the parliaments of Sweden and Norway,” the lawyer added.
Despite convictions and imprisonment, the activist continued to condemn human rights violations in Iran, these include the use of the death penalty or violence against women who do not wear the Islamic hijab.

Thus, in April, Mohammadi condemned the new campaign to restore the wearing of the hijab and confirmed that the Iranian authorities had transformed the streets of Iran on the “battlefield against women.”
And he condemned the attack suffered by young Dina Qalibaf, who was arrested in mid-April by the so-called morality police for not wearing the Islamic hijab.
After his release, Qalibaf said on his X account that he was subjected to electric shock (taser) and that the officer mocked her during the arrestfor which she was imprisoned in Tehran’s Evin prison, where she continues to work.
Mohammadi also called boycott of parliamentary elections in March 2024, which recorded the lowest participation (41%) in the 45 years of the Islamic Revolution.
Late last year he sent a letter to the parliaments of Norway and Sweden in which he stated that The Islamic Republic does not represent the people of Iran. so now she is also condemned.

Mohammadi, 51, a prisoner in Tehran’s Evin prison, has been sentenced six times to prison since 2021. a total of 13 years and three months’ imprisonment and 154 lashes, among other punishments.

“Today, the youth of Iran have turned the streets and public places into an arena of widespread civil resistance. “The resistance is alive and the fight continues” Mohammadi stated this in a speech written in Evin prison (Tehran) and read, at the request of the winner, by Kiana and Ali Rahmani, her 17-year-old twin children.
Mohammadi, 51, was “confident” that “The light of freedom and justice will shine brightly on the land of Iran,” since the regime is experiencing a situation of “unstable balance”.
