After adding Galaxy AI Samsung is trying to add artificial intelligence to its smart home products for smartphones. According to a report by Businesskorea, Samsung may launch AI-powered home appliances early next year. The company reportedly aims to create a “super-connected ecosystem” by adding artificial intelligence to its smart home products. It will also help Samsung strengthen its position against rivals such as Apple and Google.
The home device, scheduled for release in 2025, will reportedly run certain large language models (LLM) on the device, which is good for user privacy. This July, the company plans to introduce Bixby voice assistant controls for its smart home products. Initially, Samsung will rely on the cloud to run the LLM.
Some of Samsung’s smart home products that will initially include AI include Family Hub refrigerators, washing machines, and induction cooktops from Samsung’s Bespoke AI series with LCD displays.
Home appliances are expected to have numerous AI features (such as the ability to translate) that are currently mostly limited to smartphones.
With the Bixby voice assistant enriched with the latest major language models, smart home products will understand more complex commands and provide a more natural user experience. The products also reportedly remember previous conversations, which may provide additional benefits.
The number of smart home devices connected to Samsung SmartThings has reportedly exceeded 20 million. It is noteworthy that approximately 10 million were recorded in 2022. It is expected to reach 30 million next year.
