Disconnect starliner Liftoff from the ISS is scheduled for June 25, which will lead to a historic landing at White Sands Cosmodrome. Mission teams are analyzing flight test data, and a recent teleconference shared thoughts on the upcoming landing, which will be the first American crewed capsule to land on Earth.
Last week NASA delayed the return of the spacecraft starliner From the International Space Station (ISS) until June 22. NASA and Boeing teams now plan to launch the spacecraft no earlier than 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25. Spaceship Starliner. For the first docking opportunity, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, the first crew to fly on the Starliner, are scheduled to land at White Sands Spaceport in New Mexico at around 4:51 a.m. Wednesday, June 26.
Mission teams supporting NASA’s Boeing Crew Flight Test continue to review Starliner data based on completed test missions.
During a teleconference with media on Tuesday, Steve Stich, NASA’s Commercial Crew Program manager, discussed flight testing and future plans for return. Stitch was joined by Dana Weigel, NASA’s International Space Station program manager; Mike Lammers, flight supervisor at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston; and Mark Nappi, vice president and program manager, Boeing Commercial Team. After disconnecting and exiting orbit, the Starliner will parachute to land in the White Sands Desert. Airbags installed on the Starliner’s floor will soften the spacecraft’s descent. The landing will be the first time an American capsule with astronauts has landed on the ground. A team of NASA and Boeing experts will pick up the crew shortly after landing.
