His friend managed to identify two of the attackers. The three teenagers were arrested and taken into custody on Monday and appeared in court on Tuesday, prosecutors said.

The court ordered preventive detention against two teenagers for gang rape, death threats, insults and anti-Semitic violence. The third defendant, 12, is charged with all crimes except rape, the department said.

The attack shocked the Jewish community amid concerns in France of a rise in anti-Semitic attacks following the deadly Oct. 7 attack by the Islamist Hamas movement in Israel, which responded with a deadly offensive in the Gaza Strip.
