Oracle strengthens its partnership with Microsoft by making its autonomous database generally available through its partnership with Azure.
Oracle is making its Autonomous Database generally available as part of the Oracle Database@Azure collaboration. Oracle has been working closely with Microsoft and Azure since 2022. Exadata was already running on Azure, but now Oracle’s main database product is joining the fold.
Within Azure
The Oracle Autonomous Database is managed by Oracle itself but runs within the Azure ecosystem. The price of the solution on Azure will be the same as on OCI, but customers can use their Azure credits to purchase the Oracle services. This is useful for customers who are already in the Azure ecosystem and want to get more value from the Oracle Autonomous Database without the added complexity and cost.
Customers can use the database from small projects with two ECPUs to very large deployments. The partnership will initially cover the Azure East US region and then expand to other regions, but the two parties have not yet announced when.
In recent years, Oracle has increasingly positioned itself as a multi-cloud player that is happy to collaborate with (some) other cloud providers. Earlier this week, Oracle announced a partnership with Google Cloud Platform.
