As the company stated, it was decided to remove the continuous scrolling function from search results in order to improve the user experience. This feature, reminiscent of endless social media feeds, was first available on mobile in October 2021 and on desktop in late 2022.
A representative of Google explained to Search Engine Land that this decision was driven by the need to increase page loading speed. The company believes that a return to the traditional page interface on desktop pages, where users navigate between search results by pressing numbered buttons, will provide a more convenient and faster browsing experience.
Instead of infinite scrolling, users can now click a button “Further” to go to the next or previous page.
Google will introduce a button for mobile devices “More results” At the bottom of the search results page. This button will allow users to manually load the next set of results, thus preventing the automatic loading of additional information that may not be necessary. The changes are expected to be available on mobile devices in the coming months.
Google’s tweaks aim to streamline the search process by providing faster loading times and giving users more control over the browsing process.
