UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, This Wednesday he called on all Bolivians, “including the armed forces, defend the constitutional order” in his first reaction since the failed coup attempt this afternoon in La Paz.

Guterres, who took several hours to speak: nor did he use the word “condemnation” But he said he was “very concerned about today’s events and reports of a coup attempt,” in a statement released by his spokesman Stephane Dujarric.

Failed coup attempt by commander Juan Jose Zuniga – already arrested – has earned unanimous condemnation from the most important countries in the region, as well as the United States, the European Union, Spain and American multilateral organizations.

The protagonist of the military coup was dismissed by President Luis Arce, and later captured while leaving the Bolivian General Staff headquarters, thus ending several hours of uncertainty during which at times it seemed as if the coup had won.

Besides Zúñiga, there was Former Vice Admiral Juan Arnes Salvador Arrestedwho is accused of crimes of terrorism and armed rebellion against the security and sovereignty of the state.

Zúñiga later assured that Arce had asked him bring out “armored vehicles” to “raise” the popularity of the Bolivian president, who would admit to him that “the situation is very confused.” The Bolivian Prosecutor General’s Office has already announced the launch of an investigation against Zúñiga and all soldiers involved in the assassination attempt.
