What new features does FSR 3.1 bring?

The most important is without a doubt separation of frame generation and scaling, which means that frame generation with any upscaling technology can be used in all games compatible with this version. So we could activate, for example, NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution or Intel XeSS and AMD FSR frame generation.

This is great news because the frame quality of the generation it is affected by the quality of the frames it uses to feedand both NVIDIA DLSS and Intel XeSS maintain higher image quality during the image reconstruction and scaling process by using hardware-accelerated artificial intelligence.

FSR 3.1 as well improves image quality after applying scaling, reduces image duplication and image stability issues, and generally achieves a cleaner, more stable image even in the smallest image geometries. There is an important leap from the previous version, no doubt about it.

It is possible that with the next major revision of this technology, currently known as FSR 4, AMD will decide to implement AI and hardware acceleration, which will lead to a significant evolution that will bring it closer to what NVIDIA offers with Frame. Generation, technology that remains the best in its class today.
