NtechLab describes itself as “the world leader in video analytics”. It develops products for recognizing faces and silhouettes of people, cars and license plates. The main development is the FindFace program, created on the basis of artificial intelligence technologies. The company does not hide its ties with the Russian government, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and various departments and lists them in its list of key customers and partners.

Zinnatullin published a lengthy article in which he expressed his views on the situation around “rights” and “freedoms” in Russia, the war against Ukraine and other issues. However, the main subject of the article is NtechLab’s involvement in the harassment process. The fact is, the company sells facial recognition systems and, more recently, silhouette recognition systems to government agencies, helping to detect and arrest people’s enemies at rallies and demonstrations.

According to him, company employees are complicit in these processes as they develop and transfer their technology to the government.

Me and many of my colleagues in the IT industry believe that NtechLab employees were involved in unconstitutional arrests in Russia. It’s their software that helps law enforcement identify and arrest citizens during peaceful protests. They knew everything and understood everything. Meanwhile, some NtechLab employees left the country after the start of Russia’s war with Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Zinnatullin explained that all employee-related data is taken from public access: LinkedIn and GitHub. The list includes, for example, the co-founders of the company Artem Kukharenko and Alexander Kabakov. He also stated that he did not call for violence and did not search for personal information of employees – such as their residential addresses.

People kill, not guns. But NtechLab sells its work to law enforcement, which has a monopoly over violence, lawmaking and the judiciary, and citizens have no way of protecting themselves from the state. Selling to the country’s government with gross violations of civil rights and freedoms,
