gopro is celebrating a major milestone: having sold more than 50 million cameras worldwide since the launch of its iconic HERO camera in 2009. This translates to an average of approximately 3.33 million cameras sold each year over the past 15 years.
The company took over the action camera market by introducing 20 different camera models that sold more than 1 million units each. This includes not only traditional action cameras but also 360-degree cameras aimed at a wider range of creators.
But GoPro’s financial situation paints a less rosy picture. Although camera sales increased by 6% compared to the same period last year and reached 3 million units in 2023, the company’s total revenue of $ 1 billion is 8% less than the previous year.
Adding to the concerns is a net loss of $53 million for 2023, reversing the $29 million net profit recorded in 2022. This translates to a loss of $0.35 per share, compared to earnings of $0.18 per share in the prior year.
GoPro’s revenue from subscriptions and services will reach $97 million in 2023, up 18% from the previous year. This is indicative of a potential growth area where the company is looking to diversify its revenue streams.
