TrendForce shares a study that includes an estimate of DRAM price trends. If confirmed, the price of RAM and VRAM will increase in the third quarter of this year, and that will make many products in the tech world that use this component more expensive.

RAM is used in both PC memory sets and on many devices, from computers and laptops to smartphones, tablets and smartwatches, among others. Graphics memory is also used in many products such as graphics cards and accelerators and video game consoles. With this simple explanation, it’s easy to see why a rise in the price of DRAM could have such a big impact on the technology market.

A TrendForce report says that the price of RAM for mainstream consumers will rise between 3% and 8%. This increase applies to both DDR4 and DDR5 memories. In the case of server memory, the price increase would be between 5% and 10% for DDR4 and between 8% and 13% for DDR5 memory. RAM for smartphones will become more expensive by 3 to 10%.

Graphics memory price increases will also be between 3% and 8%, and general consumer DRAM will increase between 3% and 8%. Considering the overall balance, average growth is expected in the conventional DRAM market between 5% and 10%although this would increase to 8% to 13% if we add HBM memory, which will have a penetration of 6%.

If we look at the attached table, we will see that the forecast that TrendForce leaves us means lower price growth than in the second quarter of the year, meaning that while this is a bad forecast, it is less bad compared to this quarter. We will see how this will eventually affect the price of products that use this type of component, although the truth is that the said impact should be minimal, at least in the first months, because manufacturers have stocks that they bought when prices were lower.

From quite reliable sources that have a direct relationship with the Taiwanese supply chain, I have seen that the trend in the coming months clearly points in this direction, that is, to increase the price of RAM and VRAM, and this will be due to the commitment of the major DRAM memory manufacturers increase production of HBM memory, a type of memory that is more profitable to manufacture and sell.

If you are considering buying a RAM kit, I think so It’s a good time to do it because they can be found at very reasonable prices and because if you wait too long, you may find yourself with a significant price increase. In the case of computers, smartphones and graphics cards, I think that this increase in price will not be noticeable, at least for the moment.
