Samsung Galaxy AI recently expanded its language capabilities to 16 languages. Global collaboration and partnerships with academic institutions made this significant achievement possible. A key player in this development was Samsung Research Institute India-Bangalore (SRI-B), the company’s largest research center outside of Korea.
According to Samsung, SRI-B led the development of the AI model in Hindi, a task that was complex due to the language’s many dialects, tone differences, and frequent mixing of English words. The team overcame this challenge by using translated and transliterated data, as well as the expertise of native linguists, to ensure the AI accurately captured Hindi’s unique phonetic structure.
Vellore Institute of Technology was instrumental in providing the vast amount of curated audio data, including spoken language, words and commands, required to incorporate Hindi, the world’s fourth most popular language, into Galaxy AI.
The collaborative effort extends beyond India, with SRI-B working closely with other Samsung research centers worldwide to bring Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian to the Galaxy AI platform. Galaxy AI’s advanced language support through features such as Live Translate, Translator, Note Assist, and Scan Assist allows users to improve their language skills even offline.
In related news, Samsung will be holding its next Unpacked event for various markets on July 10. The event is expected to introduce a number of new devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Buds 3 series, and Galaxy Ring. One of the highlights of the event is that these devices are expected to offer the advanced Galaxy AI experience that was introduced with the Galaxy S24 series smartphones earlier this year.
