Apple Admits iPhone X, HomePod, and AirPods Are Outdated

Apple has officially included the iconic iPhone X on its list of “obsolete and discontinued” products. The first-generation HomePod smart speaker and first-generation AirPods headphones have also been included in the “obsolete” category.

Apple considers “obsolete” products that have been discontinued for more than 5 years and less than 7 years. They are not provided with service support, maintenance and spare parts at service centers. Apple can only perform repairs if spare parts are available, but it is no longer possible to order them additionally.

Announced on September 12, 2017, and released on November 3, 2017, the iPhone X marked a significant step forward in the design and feature set of Apple smartphones. The “Anniversary” model lost the branded home button with Touch ID fingerprint scanner, but received a display that covered almost the entire front panel with “bangs” and the Face ID facial recognition system.

The original “HomePod” was announced at the WWDC conference on June 5, 2017, and released on February 9, 2018, priced at $350. The first AirPods were released on September 7, 2016, and priced at $160.

An Apple product will be reclassified as “obsolete” after a period of time when it becomes “obsolete.” Apple considers a product to be “obsolete” if the company has stopped distributing the device for sale for more than 7 years. In such a case, Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers will no longer offer repairs or other hardware support for such devices.
