He Hurricane Berylwhich was strengthened to achieve category 5sets the tone for “very dangerous” hurricane seasonThe World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced this today.

Beryl devastated Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadinesleaving many homes without power and is expected to spank jamaica on Wednesday and Cayman islands At the end of the week.

“This is the earliest Category 5 hurricane recorded in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Central American basins.”WMO spokeswoman Clare Nullis told reporters in Geneva, adding:

This sets a precedent for what we fear will be a very, very, very active and very dangerous hurricane season that will affect the entire basin.

A A Category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale.with five levels, provides wind speeds of 252 kilometers per hour (157 miles per hour) or higher, capable of causing catastrophic damageincluding the destruction of homes and infrastructure.

“We must remember that it only takes one hurricane to make landfall and set back decades of development.”– said Nullis.

“We’re worried about what’s happening with Hurricane Beryl, which hit very, very small islands in the Caribbean that are not used to a hurricane of that size,” he added.

Anne-Claire Fontaine, chief scientist of the WMO’s Tropical Cyclone Programme, said one of the reasons the beryl developed so early in the season was due to warmer ocean temperatures.

“Much More Development Region (MDR), This place in the ocean, where hurricanes develop (…), has recorded the highest temperatures in history.”
