Michelin presents new solutions for motorcyclists

The launch of MICHELIN POWER 6, MICHELIN POWER GP2 and MICHELIN ANAKEE ROAD underlines the technological leadership in combining high levels of grip, engineering and stability in tyres for sport and trail motorcycles.

When it comes to passion for innovation, Michelin has been showing the way to the future for over 130 years. Thinking about the problems and needs of motorcyclists, the brand is introducing new solutions for the two-wheeled leisure vehicle segment in Colombia: MICHELIN® POWER 6, MICHELIN® POWER GP2 and MICHELIN® ANAKEE ROAD. These new wheels offer unique opportunities to integrate or improve the balance of characteristics.

“Michelin’s mission is to develop new materials, new technologies and new tyres for the cars of the future, always with a focus on mobility and sustainability. The motorcycle market requires high-performance tyres that offer safety in dry or wet conditions, sportiness and longevity. “We manage to reconcile these attributes in each of these launches,” — says Paola Telles, B2C B2B Marketing Manager for Michelin in Colombia and Ecuador.

About the releases:

MICHELIN POWER 6

The new MICHELIN® POWER 6 tyre gives sport bike riders greater confidence in its agility and stability. In addition to its extreme responsiveness, it also provides precise directional control when leaning, making it the ideal companion for trips of any length. Even in cold weather, it delivers excellent performance and makes driving on smooth, winding roads a pleasure.

The MICHELIN® POWER 6 tyre combines a better balance of performance than the renowned MICHELIN® POWER 5. Internal tests show that its grip on both wet and dry roads is 10% better than the previous generation. To give the product a sporty touch, the tyre evolves by 5% in agility, that is, the ability of the bike to respond to the driver’s commands. Their performance is inspired by Michelin’s experience in competition.

These improvements are due to the MICHELIN 2CT+ technology, which consists of a harder rubber compound throughout the tread and a softer rubber compound in the shoulder areas of the tire. This technology provides greater stability when cornering, especially when accelerating or braking. The casing has an aramid fabric that prevents deformation of the structure under the action of centrifugal forces at high speeds, maintaining contact with the ground. It is worth highlighting the velvety finish – an exclusive Michelin technology that emphasizes the brand and name of the tire.

The tyre warranty ensures exceptional safety even on wet roads, and its use opens up a wide range of sizes for motorcycles with an engine capacity of over 300 cc.

MICHELIN Power GP2

The MICHELIN® POWER GP2 tyre allows supersports riders to ride their bikes on regular streets and tracks. In both cases, it provides the confidence needed for the best experience thanks to its versatility and unique knowledge. Its design is inspired by MotoGP rims.

With a tread undercut or void rate of just 6.5%, the product combines exceptional handling with precision and first-class dry grip, while utilising the brand’s latest advances in composite technology for a safe drive.

The tread uses MICHELIN Silica technology, which provides better grip at low temperatures and on wet ground without sacrificing wear resistance, while the shoulders use Carbon Black technology, also exclusive to Michelin, to improve grip when cornering.

The construction of the MICHELIN® POWER GP2 tyre includes an aramid belt and a carcass with Radial-X EVO technology, which provide even greater flexibility and greater comfort by absorbing road deformations even at high speeds, ensuring greater riding pleasure while maintaining control. The sidewall rigidity of the tyres ensures safety when leaning the bike on the road and track. In addition, it uses MICHELIN 2CT technology in the front tyre, with a harder rubber compound in the centre of the tread to resist wear and a softer one in the shoulder areas for better grip when cornering, as well as MICHELIN 2CT+ technology in the rear tyre. An innovation that combines harder rubber with softer shoulder rubber, providing greater rigidity when cornering and greater stability, especially under hard acceleration or hard braking.

Thanks to the grip and high level of feedback provided by this technological partnership, drivers have a better sense of their tyres’ capabilities. The balance between tyre performance and tread temperature control contributes to shorter braking distances and faster braking. And because the MICHELIN® POWER GP2 rubber compound heats up quickly, compressors are not required for track use, making the tyre even more versatile on both road and track.

MICHELIN ANAKI ROAD

The famous MICHELIN® ANAKEE range has been expanded with the addition of a new tyre designed primarily for road use but eventually capable of being ridden on open terrain. Most trail bike owners use their bikes on regular streets, while travelling on holiday or on vacation. Therefore, good performance on these roads is a top priority for this audience.

Drawing on its extensive experience in the production of road and off-road tyres, Michelin has developed an innovative product for motorcyclists who do not want to choose between style and performance. The technical characteristics of the MICHELIN® ANAKEE ROAD are inspired by the MICHELIN® ROAD 6.

In addition to its bold styling, the new MICHELIN® ANAKEE ROAD has been designed to provide trail bike owners of 600cc and above with better performance thanks to optimized grip, especially on wet roads, thanks to the silica in the rubber compound, which helps to remove dirt and moisture. A new feature is the fact that the new tire uses MICHELIN 2CT+ technology, which combines a hard compound over the entire tread length with longer life and stability, as well as softer rubber and improved grip on the front and rear tires. Importantly, Michelin Premium Touch technology appears for the first time on tires in this segment.

“Innovation is at the heart of Michelin’s strategy. “We are constantly researching the development of our range of motorcycle tyres to remain a global benchmark in this field for both our end customers and manufacturers,” explains Rafael Barbosa, Michelin Two-Wheel Business Development Manager in South America.
