Google reports a bug in the latest update for Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a. If you reset your device to factory settings within 15 minutes, you will break your phone.
Anyone who owns a Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro or 6a should temporarily be very cautious. The latest update released in the last few days can turn your device into an (expensive) brick. The problem is performing a factory reset shortly after performing the update. Anyone who does that on their device will break the phone.
Google is aware of the issue and reports that users can prevent the error by leaving the phone active for 15 minutes after rebooting during the update installation. Turning it off immediately and waiting does not count, the device must be active.
If you have not yet installed the update, you can safely reset to factory settings.
Did you happen to reset your phone within fifteen minutes and the device stopped working? Google has found the cause of the problem and is working on a solution. Follow this forum post to stay updated as a user.
