Reaction to reading your name, xd-Antispy, will be divided primarily into two. On the one hand, it is extremely likely for younger people that the name means absolutely nothing to them. And it’s normal, because as I already indicated in the title, we are talking about an anti-spyware application that reached the peak of popularity thanks to Windows XP, an operating system that came to the market 23 years ago and whose life cycle ended between 2009 and 2014 (at least officially , because even after years it maintained a certain share of the market).
On the other hand, those who lived through that time will surely be surprised when they see the name and immediately think: «But it wasn’t xp-Antispy«? And that’s right, they’re right, because it was the anti-spyware that many of us used at the beginning of this century, when the Internet continued to make its way into our lives, with all the benefits that came with it, but also with the growing threats for our privacy and our security.
At this point it is necessary to specify that once the development of xp-Antispy was abandoned by its creatorssomething that happened in 2015 after its last update was published, There was a void that was now covered by xd-Antispy by GitHub user Belim with a personal project (i.e. unofficial and unrelated to the creators of the original app) that restores some of the functionality of the original app and makes it compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
In its current state, xd-Antispy allows disable many Windows functions and some of its applicationsAs well as scan the system for what the software defines as “Crappy apps”, which we can uninstall directly from the application. It’s not translated into Spanish at the moment, but even if you have trouble with English, it’s so easy to use that you’ll be able to scan and clean your system in less than two minutes.
Although xd-Antispy does not have all the features that xp-Antispy had, the most interesting thing is that this new version has plugin supportso if it manages to popularize and attract more developers, it’s possible that in the medium term we’ll find an app with a much bigger reach, and thus has the potential to repeat the success of the one it’s inspired by.
If you want to try it out, you can find xd-Antispy on GitHub, though as always in these cases remember to be carefulbecause we are talking about an unofficial app.
