“I have always believed that Sierra Leone’s future is female. This and future generations of Sierra Leone must prosper in a country where they are protected, have equal conditions and are endowed with powers”, The President of Sierra Leone announced this on his social network. X late on tuesday.

The president signed the law at a ceremony at the Freetown Convention Centre, which was also attended by his wife. Fatima Maada Bio, and other first ladies of the region’s countries.

The new law, approved by the country’s parliament on June 23, refers marriage of minors under 18 years of age and prescribes fines in the amount of imprisonment for up to 15 years.
