Water quality analysis The Seine River In recent days they have presented significant improvementwhich is an encouraging sign that some Paris Olympic Games events can be held here as planned.

The Paris City Council and the Ile-de-France prefecture noted in their weekly bulletin published on Thursday that water quality had “improved” over the last period checked. from July 24 to July 2.

“This positive evolution,” they add, This is a consequence of the return of the sun and warmth.as well as the results of the work carried out as part of the plan to improve the quality of the Seine’s water,” and contrasts with the situation in previous weeks.

In particular, there were six days out of seven (from June 29 to 29, and then July 1 and 2) when water pollution levels did not exceed established thresholds according to the European Bathing Directive in almost all samples taken at four analysis points.

The situation worsened on June 30. due to rains that fell in the Seine basin above Paris, but it was restored the next day.

With just over three weeks to go before the Paris Olympic Games open on July 26, this is one of the main challenges for the organisers, who, as part of their strategy to host various symbolic events, have made significant commitments to the river as a venue for some of the city’s venues hosting the Games.

That’s why triathlon swimming trials are planned there: July 30 for men, July 31 for women, and August 5 for the mixed relay. In addition, an open water marathon for women is planned on the river on August 8 and for men on August 9.

Since 2016, authorities have invested 1.4 billion euros in an ambitious plan to allow people to swim in the Seine, where swimming in the Seine has been banned for almost a century for health reasons.

These works, which include the construction of giant reservoirs, are aimed primarily at preventing wastewater from entering the river and polluting it without passing through treatment facilities during periods of heavy rainfall.

Wetter-than-usual weather in recent months has forced the postponement of the Games’ bathing events until at least mid-month, which were to feature, among others, the city’s mayor, Anne Hidalgo.
