And this comes after the statement made by the State of Israel this Wednesday, where 1,200 hectares of Palestinian land in the Jordan Valley were declared state land. Anti-occupation groups called the move the biggest land grab since the 1993 Oslo Accords.

The land confiscation was approved on June 25 but only made public Wednesday, according to a statement from Peace Now, an Israeli NGO that documents the colonization of Palestine. Since the beginning of 2024, Israel has declared more than 2,300 hectares in the occupied West Bank as state land, using the mechanism alongside the creation of nature reserves and training grounds to expel the Palestinian population and control the territory.

In a statement, The World Today criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, saying that “they are determined to fight against the entire world and against the interests of the people of Israel for the benefit of a handful of settlers who are getting hundreds of hectares as if there was no political conflict to resolve or war to end.”

Smotrich, who heads the Defense Ministry department responsible for settlement construction, announced in late March the allocation of another 800 hectares of state land in the Jordan Valley. addition to the 264 hectares approved on February 29 between the Israeli colonies of Maale Adumim and Kedarnear Jerusalem. In addition, the council responsible for settlement planning at the Defense Ministry announced on Monday the construction of another 6,016 homes in dozens of settlements in the occupied West Bank, with a final decision to be made in the coming days.

The construction plans include the expansion of more than 1,000 apartments in the Gvaot settlement, as well as the creation of a new neighborhood in the Yakir settlement, which will make it easier for Israel to annex land in Palestinian territory. The World Today denounced that “the main goal of the current government (Netanyahu), from its decisions to its actions, is to eliminate any possibility of a political solution between the Israelis and the Palestinians.”
