Michelin is pleased to announce the launch in Colombia of its revolutionary X Multi Energy range of tyres designed to improve the efficiency and environmental friendliness of passenger and freight transport. This innovative range, which will be launched in July 2024, has been tested in collaboration with an important inter-municipal transport company and has demonstrated significant savings that will lead to economic and environmental benefits for the Colombian transport sector.
In tests carried out on Colombian roads in mid-2023, it was found that the X Multi Energy Z tires save about 4% on fuel compared to the previous range. Considering that the average bus travels 10,000 kilometers per month and has a performance of 10 kilometers per gallon, this savings translates into a significant economic benefit of more than 200,000,000 pesos per year for a fleet of 50 vehicles.
In addition to the economic benefits, Michelin is proud of its contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in Colombia’s transport sector. According to the Ministry of Transport, one commercial vehicle emits about 6,166 kg of CO2 per month. With the adoption of
The unique structure of the X Multi Energy tyres features advanced technologies such as Regenion, which includes new grooves that appear as the tread wears, thereby improving grip and safety throughout its service life. While high rigidity and shallower sculpture depth result in lower rolling resistance, which allows for greater fuel efficiency.
The Energy range has been carefully developed to provide optimum performance and unrivalled efficiency on the most challenging sections of Colombia’s regional roads, with a design and body structure specifically adapted to improve safety, durability and fuel economy. In short, this range redefines the standards of quality in the transport industry.
Initially, the X Multi Energy range will be presented in two offerings: the 295/80 R22.5 Multi Energy Z, designed for the steering axle, and the 295/80 R22.5.
Paola Telles, Michelin Marketing Manager for Colombia and Ecuador, highlights the importance of these innovative tyres: “The X Multi Energy range represents an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation in mobility. We are firmly committed to producing tyres that not only improve transport efficiency and productivity, but also minimise our impact on the environment. Looking to the future, we have set ourselves the ambitious goal of producing tyres made from 100% recycled materials by 2050. This commitment not only reflects our commitment to sustainability, but also demonstrates our active contribution to promoting greener and more responsible transport in Colombia.
Michelin reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by leveraging its 120 years of innovation to continue leading the transformation towards a greener and more responsible transport sector in Colombia.
