The story of the Notepad is an interesting story.. There are many who associate its birth with the birth of Windows 1 in 1985, but in fact its debut occurred two years earlier, concurrently with the arrival of the mouse on MS-DOS. Presented as Multi-Tool Notepad, it was a very, very simple text editor (even by the standards of the time), the main innovation of which was mouse support. And yes, when Windows 1 came, in which mouse support was much more important, Notepad was added to the suite of applications integrated into it.

So we can say that It is part of a dwindling list of applications that have accompanied Windows since its inception, and what’s more, it remained the only writing and editing tool integrated into the system even after the departure of WordPad earlier this year. Obviously, Notepad is much more limited in terms of features, but the truth is that there are some uses for what is more recommended and undoubtedly popular.

He didn’t always have it easy, yes, let’s remember that Microsoft spent a long time without an update, adding new features or showing the slightest interest in it in general, and then decided to remove it from the Windows installation, so from then on it was necessary to go to the app store to get it and install it. Its future looked gray, but probably due to the interest shown by users, shortly after Microsoft updated its design, and a little over a year later we learned that it was also going to add the long-awaited cards.

So as part of this second youth we’re experiencing, we continue to see new developments like the one we told you about a few months ago, which has finally made the leap from insider versions to a stable version of the operating system. So as we read in WindowsLatest, Windows Notepad now offers spell checking and autocorrect features. These features are available in version 11.2405.13.0 and at first glance their scope is universal. In my case, I checked and indeed it is now available.

So with both functions activated, Notepad automatically corrects words that have an easily identifiable error (such as omitting an accent) and proceed to mark with characteristic wavy red underline those wrong words you don’t know how to correct. In them, we can right-click, move to Spelling, and in the menu that appears, select the correct word or make further adjustments.

Although this feature is quite handy for many uses, there are also​​​​​​​​others in which it can be inappropriate, such as when we use it to edit code (something quite common, actually). In such cases, we will only have to access the configuration by clicking on the gear icon that appears to the right of the menu bar, and disable Spell Check and AutoCorrectand now you can use Notepad without having to worry about correcting your texts.
