HP Instant Ink for laser printers will be discontinued later this year, but existing subscribers can continue to use the service.

Along with the announcement of ending the connection between HP+ and laser printers, HP is also ending its Instant Ink subscription for laser printers. Inkjet printers will still have access to Instant Ink.

HP shares this statement with Druckerchannel: “HP will stop selling its Instant Ink toner subscription later this year. The service will no longer be available to new customers. This will not impact existing Instant Ink for Toner subscribers, only new customers to this offer.”

Every printer that HP sells today, whether inkjet or laser, is compatible with HP Instant Ink. Instead of buying ink every time, you pay by subscription for a fixed number of pages per month. The manufacturer can monitor your usage and ensures that you receive new ink in good time. You can return the old ink cartridge free of charge using the return bag provided.

It’s unclear why HP is discontinuing Instant Ink for laser printers. The current subscription included only black and white printing. According to Printer Channel, a color printing formula or a blended formula was tested, but Instant Ink for Toner was ultimately discontinued.

If you have a compatible HP laser printer and are unsure about Instant Ink today, you should decide quickly before the formula disappears in the near future. Or, as a company, you can choose a business service formula for your laser printer(s) that goes beyond simply providing toner for continued printing.
