Mozilla will continue to support Firefox on Windows 7 after September, unlike its major competitors Chrome and Edge.
September 2024 does not seem to be the last date when Firefox will end support for Windows 7 (and Windows 8/8.1). In a conversation on the Firefox subreddit with the Mozilla leadership team, more details about Firefox’s expanded support on Windows 7 came to light.
Byron Jourdan, senior director of product management at Mozilla, said: “We plan to extend support for Windows 7 users beyond the currently planned date and provide them with better options for migrating to a new PC if they need to.” The same goes for Windows 8 and 8.1.”
“The honest answer is that we don’t know at this point, but at first glance it makes sense that we would support it while usage is still high there.”
In the latest figures from Statcounter, Windows 7 has a market share of three percent. This share has fallen by half a percentage point within twelve months. Windows 10 continues to lead with a 66 percent market share, followed by Windows 11 with 30 percent.
