No version of Windows lasts forever. You can also lose support for Windows 11 if you don’t update your PC in time. Microsoft is warning users who are still using Windows 11 22H2 that this version will no longer be supported in 90 days.
The same announcement also applies to the last users of Windows 11 21H2, the “original” version of Windows 11. This version was previously discontinued for Home and Pro and now Enterprise customers will also have to upgrade. Windows 11 22H2 was the first major feature update for Windows 11. Enterprise users may stick with this version for a while.
In principle, you don’t have to do anything. Microsoft will automatically roll out an update to Windows 11 23H2 to make sure no one is left behind. Windows 11 23H2 will be available from fall 2023.
If you have declined the update so far, you now have little choice but to install it or accept the security risks of outdated software. Microsoft will roll out a final security update for Windows 11 22H2 on October 8.
Microsoft is preparing the next major Windows 11 update. The launch of the first Copilot+ PCs could be considered the unofficial launch of Windows 11 24H2. The update for the general public will follow in the fall, despite a rocky launch.
