On Tuesday, the US warned Russia that NATO is “ready to defend every inch of territory.” and that this year alone the group will invest $500 billion in defense.
Speaking in Washington, Jake Sullivan, White House National Security Adviserassured that the measures taken by NATO in recent years to modernize represent “an unambiguous message” that it is ready to defend its territories “now and in the future.”
Sullivan stressed that if in 2020 NATO countries invested $325 billion in defense, then this year the figure has risen to $500 billion and that already 23 countries invest at least 2% of their gross domestic product (GDP) in defense.

For the White House adviser, all the measures that will be taken during the NATO summit that began Tuesday in Washington, as well as the actions taken after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, represent a clear signal that Vladimir Putin cannot divide the military alliance.
Sullivan said:
It cannot outlive us. It cannot weaken us. And Ukraine, not Russia, will win this war.
He also directly linked the situation in the Indo-Pacific region to Europe and the war in Ukraine and warned that The United States tracks the transfer of weapons, technology and other assets from Russia to countries including China, Iran and North Korea.
“What happens in Europe affects the Indo-Pacific. What happens in the Indo-Pacific affects Europe. “We see it every day”– he commented and cited as an example Russia’s use of missiles produced in North Korea and drones produced in Iran in Ukraine.
“We are looking at what Russia provides to these countries in return and what impact that has on the security of the Indo-Pacific region and other parts of the world,” he said.
