Audi takes into account the possibility of premature termination of production of the model Audi Q8 e-tron and the closure of the Brussels factory. Audi said the Q8 e-tron and Q8 Sportback e-tron were suffering from “increased demand”, in part as a result of new electric vehicles such as the Q6 e-tron. That model is cheaper, more modern and has a longer range than the Q8 e-tron.

As a result, the Q8 e-tron line has seen a sharp decline in orders. Audi also said there were “long-standing structural problems” at the Brussels plant where the electric crossovers are built. These include high logistics costs and a layout that is difficult to change due to the plant’s location close to the city center.

“The Audi Brussels Board of Directors has informed the company’s Board of Directors of its intention to restructure the site. With the declaration of this intention, a process of information and consultation begins in accordance with Belgian law. During this process, the site management discusses the solution for the site together with the responsible social partners. This may also include closing the site if no alternative can be found,” an Audi representative said.

CEO Audi Brussels Volker Hermann stressed: “This statement… does not mean that a decision has been made.” However, he admitted: “This news was very deeply received by the staff in Brussels and by me as well.”
