Fujitsu was hit by a cyberattack in March. Although no ransomware was involved, information about customers was reportedly stolen.

Fujitsu provides further text and explanations (in Japanese) on its website about an incident that occurred on March 15. On that day, the company discovered that intruders had penetrated the company’s IT environment, allegedly collecting confidential information from customers and individuals.

The company confirmed that the attackers used “advanced malware,” but almost immediately added that it was not ransomware. Using the malware, the attackers managed to infect 49 of the Japanese company’s PCs. The affected devices were taken offline as quickly as possible, but this did not prevent the attackers from stealing information.

Fujitsu will provide many more details. The attack would have been limited to the internal Japanese network. Customers do not need to worry about hackers entering their environment via Fujitsu’s systems. Fujitsu has sought external help to investigate the impact of the data breach. The fact that the parties involved were informed personally suggests that this was not a small-scale hacking attack.
