The new Capri and Explorer use the same modular MEB platform that also underpins Volkswagen’s electric vehicles ID. 4 and ID. 5. Both crossovers share the same 2,770mm wheelbase, but while the Explorer focuses on practicality and family use, the Capri focuses on sporty design and styling, sacrificing some interior space for a sloping roof silhouette.
The designers added several elements inspired by the classic Coupe, including a black strip at the front that resembles the original radiator grille and headlight units with daytime running lights. The interior echoes the Explorer in many ways, including the 14.6-inch infotainment screen and a large compartment hidden behind it.
From a technical point of view, the old and new Ford Capri are completely different cars. The basic version of the crossover received rear-wheel drive and a multi-link rear suspension instead of a single-axle. The electric motor produces 282 hp. It has almost twice the output of the naturally aspirated top V6 of the old Capri, and acceleration to 100 km / h takes only 6.4 seconds. The all-wheel drive version with two electric motors with a total power of 335 hp. Acceleration to 100 km / h in 5.3 seconds. The price of the new Capri has not yet been announced.
