Iraqi court Wife of late Islamic State leader sentenced to death (IS) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi for collaborating with the group and holding Yazidi women in his home, the Iraqi judiciary said on Wednesday, without naming the woman.
Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council said the Yazidi women were abducted by Islamic State gangs in the Sinjar region, west of Nineveh province, and then held captive by the woman in her home in Mosul. The woman is in custody in Iraq.
“Today, the criminal court sentenced Baghdadi’s wife to death by hanging for crimes against humanity and genocide against the Yazidis, as well as for assisting terrorist acts,” he said. Reuters a court official who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
The verdict must be ratified by Iraq’s appeals court. make it final and applicablethe official added.
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in November 2019 during a US special forces raid in northwest Syria.
He led an ultra-linear group, declaring himself the “caliph” of all Muslims and exercising power over vast territories. Iraq and Syria from 2014 to 2017. before Islamic State control collapsed under US-led attacks.
