George Clooney asks Biden to leave; ‘I love him, but we need a new candidate’

Actor and director George ClooneyThe self-proclaimed Democrat, who has participated in various US presidential campaigns and supported the re-election of President Joe Biden, joined the voices of his party this Wednesday asking the president to withdraw from the race and make way for a new candidate, and he said his opinion is privately shared by numerous congressmen and senators.

The American actor, who hosted a fundraiser last month with actress Julia Roberts, has made clear his support for Biden as a senator, vice president and president.

«I love Joe BidenAs a senator, as a vice president, and as a president, I consider him a friend and I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in their morals. “He has won many of the battles he has faced over the past four years,” the Hollywood star said in an article published in the New York Times.

But Clooney, one of the latest actors to join the re-election campaign, also said that “the only battle (Biden) can’t win is the fight against time. None of us can“He advised remembering that the Biden who is now seeking re-election is not the same person he was in 2010, when he was vice president.

“It’s horrible to say, but the Joe Biden I was at a fundraiser with three weeks ago was not the Joe Biden (…) of 2010, he wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the Joe Biden of the debate,” he wrote in an opinion piece.

Biden faced Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in a debate that made it clear to many, including much of the Democratic Party leadership, that the president should drop out of the race, after which names began to be floated as possible replacements.

“Was I tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw. We’re all so scared about the prospect of a second Trump term that we’ve decided to ignore all the warning signs.

“Is it fair to point these things out? It has to be. It’s age. Nothing more, but nothing that can be reversed. “We’re not going to win in November with this president,” he said, and assured that Democrats would lose their ability to control Congress if Biden continued to run as a candidate.

“This is not just my opinion; this is the opinion of every congressman and governor I have spoken to privately,” he said.
