There are those who hate voice messages, there are those who love them. If you are in the first group, you are lucky. For more than a year, WhatsApp beta for iOS has included a function that allows us not to have to listen to voices if we do not want to: automatic transcription. It is a function that has been in beta for a long time, but has not yet been made available to other users.

While it’s finally coming to iPhone, WhatsApp for Android is also launching the same functionality in beta, with Spanish being one of the languages ​​that could be available in the future. The feature is currently being tested on a limited number of users, but it will require version 2.24. 15.5 and a bit of luck to make it happen.

In May 2023 the good news came: iOS began to receive instant transcription in the WhatsApp application. The operation was simply magnificent, it was enough to accept the transcription in the settings so that when they sent us a message it appeared just below the text.

It’s been over a year, but the feature is already starting to expand in beta for Android. According to WaBetaInfo , the voice packs available in this first phase are English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi.

Just like in iOS, this feature requires us to choose our language to download the data package. Once we allow this function to be executed in the settings, the transcribed text will automatically appear below the voice message.

Being able to read the voicemails they send us without having to play them back is a very useful feature. Right now, only a small group of users in beta can benefit from this feature, but it’s only a matter of time before it’s rolled out to the stable version.
