WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow users to transcribe voice messages, reports WABetainfo. This new feature will allow users to transcribe both received and sent voice messages. This will make WhatsApp easier to use for the hearing impaired, but it can also be useful in noisy environments where audio is difficult to hear or to quickly parse a long message. The feature is currently being rolled out with WhatsApp beta version 2.24.15.5 to some test users and is available in five different languages.

According to WABetainfo, signals for this new feature were already visible in the previous test version of WhatsApp 2.24.7.8. Now, the transcription feature seems to have entered the testing phase for users running the WhatsApp beta version 2.24.15.5 for Android. This allows test users to transcribe voice messages they receive and send themselves.

This new feature makes WhatsApp more accessible as it improves the user experience for people with hearing problems. In addition, it can also be useful in noisy environments. By transcribing the received voice message, you can still participate in the conversation without listening to the audio. Finally, it also helps to search through a long voice message for important information without having to listen to the entire audio file.
Test phase
The voice message transcription feature is currently in the testing phase and has not been officially announced by WhatsApp. The current test is available in five different languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Hindi. It is not yet clear when this feature will be rolled out to all users.
