At a long-awaited press conference, Biden said it was not “unusual” that there were doubts about his candidacy at this stage of the presidential race and reiterated that there was still a “long road” ahead.
The conference was surrounded by maximum anticipation, with all eyes focused on Biden’s performance after doubts were expressed by members of the Democratic Party about his ability to govern for another four years following his debate against Trump on June 27.
However, He confused Vice President Kamala Harris with Trump.
The Democratic president was asked about the internal pressure within the Democratic Party to drop out of the race and how he thinks Harris could stand up to Trump if she is elected instead.
“I would not have chosen Vice President Trump as my vice president if I did not think she was not qualified (sic) to be president,” he responded.
He also referred to his controversial performance in a June debate against a Republican mogul, saying it was a “stupid mistake.”

Biden was asked about another gaffe that marked the day, when he called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “Putin” at a public event.
Visibly upset, the president downplayed the event: “Have you seen a more successful summit? “I was talking about Putin and I said Putin, no, sorry, Zelensky.”
“I know it sounds too selfish, but other leaders, heads of state, thanks to me, say: The reason we are together is Biden (…) I think it was the most successful summit I have attended in a long time.” he claimed. (EFE and Reuters)
