NATO has decided to set up a new centre to protect against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. The Cyber Security Hub is installed in Belgium.
NATO Allies today agreed to establish the NATO Integrated Cyber Defense Center (NICC). This center will improve the protection of NATO and Allied networks and make better use of cyberspace as an operational domain. The NICC will inform NATO military commanders about potential threats and vulnerabilities in cyberspace, including civilian critical infrastructure required for military activities.
The new centre brings together civilian and military personnel from various NATO countries and industry experts. By using advanced technologies, the NICC will increase situational awareness in cyberspace and strengthen collective resilience and defence.
The NICC will promote a standards-based, predictable and secure approach to cyberspace, consistent with Allies’ shared values and international commitments, contributing to a safer and more resilient digital domain.
The centre will be located at NATO’s Strategic Military Headquarters (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium. Details of the structure and function of the centre will be further developed in the coming months.
