Among the main reasons for the accumulation of these devices are the lack of specialized collection points nearby (61%) and the lack of information on how to properly dispose of this waste (44%).
It is worth noting that Brazil is one of the countries that generates the most e-waste in the world, having a large accumulation of products such as batteries, rechargeable batteries, headphones, chargers and smartphones that can pollute the environment if not disposed of properly.
Among the users who perform the deletion correctly, 86% showed that they are always trying to separate waste from recyclables. 64% they say that they make a deposit at specialized reception points.
About it, 16% of respondents stated that they routinely dispose of e-waste in the general trash and 19% said they usually mix e-waste with recyclables.
The study also showed that children have more stable habits compared to their parents. O 77% have shown that they correctly separate e-waste. Among adults (fathers and mothers) about 62% said that always, or almost always, throw their rubbish at selective collection points.
Encourage e-waste recycling
Encouraging the correct disposal of e-waste, Vivo, which participated in the survey, usually runs campaigns in physical and virtual stores. Marina Daineze, director of image and communications at Vivo, says: “As market leaders, we have decided to use the power of the brand to shed light and engage people on hot topics such as e-waste. Through our campaigns, we aim to guide and inspire people to stick with that little attitude that goes a long way. for sustainability.”
Last year, the company raised about 9.2 tons electronic devices destined for recycling, which is 21% more than in 2020.
How to properly dispose
In order to dispose of electronic products with the Vivo program, users need to pay attention to some information. Consumers have to go to a Vivo store to deliver their materials, so the components are sent to a partner company who will handle the entire process of sorting and separating the material, respecting each type of device and giving it the best possible destination.
Continuation after commercial
The company basically advises users not to pierce mobile phone batteries, as this can release harmful toxins into people and the environment. For example, in the case of modems and TV decoders, the products are evaluated to determine if they are repairable, if not, the device is completely disassembled and sent for recycling.
In the case of cell phones, it is recommended to deactivate the SIM card and delete all personal information stored on the device.
