Swiss company S2a Systems reported that it detected dozens of objects surrounding the upper stage of the Chinese Changzheng-6A rocket, which was launched into orbit at the end of March 2024. The nature and cause of the debris are unclear.
Experts from S2a Systems have discovered about 60 objects orbiting the upper stage of the Changzheng-6A launch vehicle. Despite their small size, the objects are moving at a speed of about seven kilometers per second and pose a threat to other spacecraft.
Space debris is becoming an increasingly important problem today, potentially threatening satellites, spacecraft and stations. According to data from the European Space Agency (ESA) as of June this year, there are 40,500 space debris objects larger than 10 centimeters and more than a million objects between 1 and 10 centimeters in size.
