It is now possible to install Windows XP, different Linux distributions and even Mac OS 9 on the iPhone. This news comes with another great opening for the iPhone: Aptoide is now available and comes as one of the first real alternatives to the App Store.

As for the first novelty, retro operating systems come to iPhone thanks to UTM SE, an emulator that allows the virtualization of software. This is a proposal that was initially available for macOS and now also reaches iOS through the App Store.

UTM SE is described as a Retro PC emulator. It can be downloaded from the App Store and is completely free. It also has no ads or a paid version: you don’t have to pay a euro to use it. The only requirement is that you have an iPhone with iOS 14 or later and keep in mind that this app weighs 1.7 GB.

Through this application we can use our iPhone as a virtual machine, so we can run systems such as Windows XP, Windows 7, some Linux distributions and macOS. It is a relatively easy application to use since you only have to download the distribution , assign the amounts of memory to the virtual machine and run it.

But the installation process isn’t for everyone: running it and configuring it to make everything work properly requires some knowledge of Terminal applications.

The application sets an important precedent: It is the first time an application has been installed that allows virtualization of PC operating systems.
