The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has announced the battery and range specifications of BYD’s Leopard 3 electric SUV. It will enter the Chinese market this year with a starting price of $ 30,000 and is expected to enter the European market later, but already under the BYD brand Denza.
The Blade’s 78.72 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD subsidiary FinDreams weighs 560 kg. Considering that the BYD Leopard 3 SUV’s curb weight reaches 2150 kg, the battery takes up around 25% of the car’s weight.
The BYD Leopard 3 can travel up to 510 kilometers on a full charge. The power plant consists of two electric motors with 110 kW (148 hp) and 220 kW (295 hp) respectively. The total power of this is 330 kW (442 hp). The BYD Leopard 3 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
BYD Leopard 3 is an SUV with wide bumpers and wide wheel arches. Its dimensions are 4605x1900x1720 mm and the wheelbase is 2745 mm. It corresponds to the dimensions of the Jeep Cherokee SUV. The entry and exit angles are 25 and 28 degrees. BYD Leopard 3 will go on sale in China this year. This is the first all-electric BYD Leopard 3 model.
