Brazilian researcher and 3D designer Cicero Moraes, who specializes in computer-aided reconstruction of the appearance of ancient people, recently recreated the face of a mummy known as the “gilded woman” because of her golden headdress. She is often called “mysterious” because there is no hieroglyphic name on the mummy’s sarcophagus.
The mummified remains of an ancient Egyptian woman, kept today in the Field Museum in Chicago (USA), were recently examined by archaeologist Michael Habicht and reconstructor Cicero Morais.
Using data from a CT scan of the mummy in 2011, researchers discovered the presence of short curly hair visible in the CT reconstruction, and also corrected the position of the jaw by reconstructing the skull.
Using ultrasound measurements, the researchers determined the thickness of soft tissues in different areas of the skull.
