IDC: Apple Vision Pro will not reach 500,000 units sold this year

According to IDC, the Apple Vision Pro is not selling like hotcakes and American sales are falling sharply. The start of international sales will correct the numbers to a limited extent.

When the Apple Vision Pro was launched in the US in February, there was a lot of hype. This hype led to good sales figures in the first and second quarters, which just missed the 100,000 units mark. For the third quarter, these numbers would drop dramatically as the hype now seems to be over.

It’s no coincidence that Apple has decided to make the Vision Pro available in more countries and regions starting June 28: Australia, Canada, China, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK. According to IDC, Apple needs these new markets to boost sales again.

“The success of the Vision Pro, regardless of price, will ultimately depend on the available content,” IDC’s Francisco Jeronimo told Bloomberg. “As Apple expands the product to international markets, it is critical that local content also becomes available.”

IDC expects that the Apple Vision Pro will not reach the 500,000 unit sales mark this year, despite international expansion.

The mixed reality glasses’ low-key launch may have a lot to do with their high cost: $3,500. Apple is reportedly working on a cheaper version of the glasses to keep the hype train on track. IDC expects Apple’s mixed reality glasses sales to double in the second half of 2025 with the launch of a budget-friendly option.
