In a statement released this Saturday, July 13, the Cisneros organization, owner of the Venevisión channel, said that “it has not and will not authorize the use of its name for political purposes, nor for commercial or selfish purposes,” its emblem, label or logo, as well as its musical anthem, created by the late Venezuelan composer Aníbal Abreu.

Re-election candidate Nicolás Maduro has used the Venevição anthem at his political rallies to simulate the announcement of the expected election results that would make him the winner on July 28.

The company called on presidential candidates not to continue using Venevisión brands or musical themes in their campaigns, as they are protected by industrial property and copyright laws, as well as the Magna Carta.

“Venevisión reserves the right to take all legal actions recognized and permitted by the Venezuelan legal system in the event of continued unauthorized use contrary to law,” the document concludes.

The regulations governing the campaign for the current presidential elections prohibit the use of the image, name or surname of any citizen, as well as colors and symbols identifying an organization with political goals, or a group of citizens, without their permission.
