A Tesla electric car caught fire at a charging station in Pennsylvania, USA. On July 8, an electric vehicle caught fire at a Sheetz charging station in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. The make and model of the vehicle has not yet been confirmed, but it is suspected to be a Model Y.

A fire at a charging station in Pennsylvania prompted a rapid response from the Upper Allen Fire Department and other fire departments. Responders included Upper Allen Police, Mechanicsburg Fire Company, TEAM 200, Lisburn Fire Company and Hampden Township Fire Department. But the combined response was not enough to save the car from nearly burning to the ground.

The Upper Allen Fire Department filed a detailed incident report, but the cause of the fire has not been made public. Fire crews closed the street to traffic while they battled the fire. They used a fire hydrant on the opposite side of the road and remained on scene for approximately five hours due to fears of a re-ignition.

There have been several reported cases of Tesla cars catching fire, but the company insists its vehicles are safe. Tesla recently released a report claiming that its cars catch fire 9 times less often than the US average over 1 billion miles. Vehicle owners are always advised to take preventative measures to reduce or prevent a vehicle from catching fire.
