Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump appeared in public Monday with a bandage over his right ear at the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin, making his first public appearance since an assassination attempt over the weekend.
The former president (2017-2021) walked into a stadium full of party members and supporters, saluted the crowd, and raised his right fist. As he approached vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance, his supporters gave him a standing ovation.
The tycoon was surrounded by the Trump family.
They were also joined by House Speaker Mike Johnson and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
The crowd cheered “USA!” and “We want Trump!”
Trump was slightly injured on Saturday in Pennsylvania after he was shot, with the bullet grazing his right ear.
The attack left one fan dead and two others injured, who were taken to hospital.
The gunman, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was shot dead seconds later by a Secret Service sniper on the roof from where he fired the shots.
Candidate for President and Vice President
Donald Trump was officially elected this Monday as the Republican Party’s nominee for the November 5 presidential election after receiving the support of an overwhelming majority of the 2,500 delegates gathered in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention.
“In accordance with Rule 40D of the Republican Constitution, I hereby declare President Donald Trump and J.D. Vance the Republican nominees for President and Vice President of the United States,” said Michael Whatley.
State delegations pledged their support one after another during the convention. Florida’s intervention guaranteed Trump the votes he needed to become the nominee.
The Florida delegation’s press secretary was Eric Trump, the son of the virtual Republican candidate. Eric Trump was flanked by Tiffany Trump and Donald Trump Jr.
Thus, the Republican delegates lived up to the predictions, as an estimated 2,268 votes will go to Donald Trump, turning the convention into a mere formality.
The event also marked Trump’s announcement that he was choosing Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate. Trump revealed his choice in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Shortly after Trump’s announcement on his social media account, Vance appeared before the Republican National Convention and, at the request of the Ohio delegation, a motion was approved to elect him as the vice presidential nominee by endorsement.
