OnePlus is launching the new generation of the successful Nord series. The Nord 4 stands out with its metal casing and has the longest support of all OnePlus smartphones.

Under the Italian sun in Milan, OnePlus is showing the world the Nord 4 today. It’s no coincidence that the latest device in the Nord series is being announced with more fanfare than the OnePlus 12 earlier this year. The Nord series is designed to embody OnePlus’ philosophy of being a “flagship killer” in the smartphone industry.

Previous Nord series aircraft have proven successful in this mission. We call the Nord 3 an (almost) perfect mid-size car. With some targeted improvements, the Nord 4 should do even better.

Metal housing

OnePlus calls the Nord 4 the thinnest member of the Nord family. We’re not going to use a scale, but with a thickness of just under 8 mm, the Nord 4 can definitely be described as slim.

In addition, the all-metal design stands out. This used to be more common, but since the beginning of the 5G era, we hardly see it anymore, as metal can affect signal strength. OnePlus has done some research in its lab and found a way to reconcile metal and 5G, thanks in part to more compact antennas.

With a 6.74-inch display, the Nord 4 is a large smartphone. The display has space for 1240 x 2772 pixels. OnePlus increases the peak brightness to 2000 nits. A new feature in the screen is the AquaTouchThis ensures that you can still operate the screen smoothly even after a dip in the pool or a sudden rain shower with wet fingers. Not an unnecessary luxury in a country like Belgium. Thanks to the IP65 protection rating, the device itself can also withstand splashes of water.

No savings on hardware

The fact that OnePlus doesn’t skimp on its Nord devices is evident from the other specifications of the Nord 4. The processor is a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. While this is not the same Snapdragon processor as in the OnePlus 12 and other flagship devices, it is still a more than solid processor that is also AI compatible.

According to OnePlus, the Nord 4’s 50MP main camera delivers the same image quality as the flagship. To enhance your images even further if needed, the necessary AI functions are available. An 8MP wide-angle lens flanks the main camera, and there is a 16MP lens on the front.

The cameras are mounted horizontally, while many devices opt for a vertical setup. This was necessary to make room for the robust 5,500mAh battery. On paper, the battery charges at an impressive 100W, but with a caveat. If you don’t have a branded charger, you won’t get the promised charging speeds, and a charger isn’t included in the box.

Long lifespan

OnePlus wants you to enjoy the Nord 4 for as long as possible. A number of technical gadgets ensure that the device lasts a long time. The battery features Health Engine technology to optimize battery usage and charging habits, which significantly extends battery life. The OnePlus Nord 4 has also been extensively tested and certified to run smoothly for up to six years after first use.

This only makes sense if the software is maintained long enough. OnePlus promises four major Android updates and up to six years of security updates. This is remarkable because the company had previously openly opposed long-term support from Google and Samsung, among others. Now OnePlus seems to have to realize that it has to follow this trend.

Price and availability

The OnePlus Nord 4 will be available from August 8th in two configurations and three color options: silver, black and green. The entry-level version with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage costs 499 euros including VAT. If you want 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage, you have to pay 599 euros including VAT.
