In Norway, Boeing and Nammo conducted a series of fire tests of the Ramjet 155 long-range munition, according to the Boeing report. The Ramjet 155 artillery munition was designed to meet the US Army’s requirements for long-range and enemy-directed fire.

Successful tests demonstrated the survivability and predicted characteristics of the artillery system.

«We are very inspired by the progress in the development, refinement and ongoing testing of our Ramjet 155 shell, which we believe will provide excellent and cost-effective capabilities against emerging threats.“- said Boeing spokesman Steve Nordlund.

Ammunition Ramjet 155 uses a direct-flow jet engine in its design.

Morten Brandtzeg, Nammo CEO, said: “We are making excellent progress in direct current jet engine development without any major hurdles. Recent tests are extremely promising.”

The Norwegian company Nammo has been collaborating with Boeing Phantom Works since 2019 to develop a new generation of artillery shells that meet the requirements of the US Army.

The program builds on the success of the Boeing Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) and Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) programs. Currently, the team plans to further develop and test the long-range artillery shell in the coming months.

The new generation ammunition will be able to use all L52 (155-mm) type weapons. In 2019, Nammo representatives said that motor ammunition will have a maximum range of about 150 kilometers.
